"Karle Wilson Baker" was a writer, professor of English at SFASU, and the city's most famous poet. Among her several published books of poetry is 'Dreamers on Horseback' (1913). After is publicization, she was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize. She was president and Fellow of the Texas Institute of Letters. Her Poem "Growing Old" is found in many anthologies of poetry.
